Ian Todd, the former director of information at P & O European

Ferries, has been appointed as head of PR at Hoverspeed.

Todd, who took voluntary redundancy from P&O European Ferries after it

merged with Stena Line (PR Week, 11 October 1996), starts work at

Hoverspeed next week.

His appointment comes after a wholesale review of PR by Hoverspeed -

part of the Sea Containers company.

Marketing director John Smith said: ’We decided to review the way we do

our PR as part of a whole range of reviews of our communications

strategy.’ Following the review, the company ended its contract with

Christine Davey Associates, after working with the agency for 18

months.

Todd will be responsible for PR operations across the whole of Europe

and Scandinavia and may hire outside PR consultancies. ’It’s up to him

to put together a PR team,’ said Smith.

Hoverspeed increased its number of passengers by 27 per cent last year,

and the number of cars carried increased by 11 per cent.
