BP gained more favourable press coverage than any other UK company

in the third quarter of the year.

Following the announcement of its merger with Amoco, BP scored a

positive rating of 625 according to PressWatch Quarterly’s survey of

1,173 companies.

Next was Ford which gained a score of 611 after the successful launch of

its Focus car. Other companies in the top five by positive press

coverage were retail group Kingfisher, CGU (formerly Commercial Union

and General Accident) and BMW.

Companies at the bottom of the table included food producer Booker,

Prudential, still embroiled in the pensions mis-selling scandal, and

Virgin Rail, which recently apologised for its service. But the company

with the largest PR battle on its hands is the BBC which achieved a

minus rating of 2,110 following changes at Radio 3 and Radio 4.
