BRUSSELS: Silicone manufacturer Dow Corning, the company at the

centre of US legal battles over silicone gel used in breast implants,

has appointed its first dedicated communications director for

Europe.

Jan Botz has been promoted from within the company to look after

European communications. The task was previously handled by Alain

Joachim who was communications and human resources director. Joachim

remains with the company as human resources director.

Splitting the two functions will allow Dow Corning Europe to place a

greater emphasis on communicating with customers. Botz was previously

marketing communications manager for the Americas at Dow Corning.

Dow Corning stopped producing implants in 1992 following thousands of

claims by women. It now produces over 8,000 products made from silicone

including automotive goods and additives used in shampoos and

detergents.
