Carol Grant, former director of communications and public affairs

at the Local Government Association, is joining Lawson Lucas Mendelsohn

(LLM) as a consultant.

Grant, who left the LGA in March, will work on LLM’s existing clients

and help to develop new business. She joins LLM’s existing team of

consultants with experience in local government: Ben Lucas, a founder of

pressure group the New Local Government Network, and Abigail Melville,

formerly head of the Labour Party’s local government unit.

Grant worked at the association - a client of LLM’s since last year -

for 18 months, handling the organisation’s launch and its first annual

conference. She has been replaced at the association by its environment

and planning head Phil Swann (profile, p28).

Grant was previously a freelance consultant in the housing sector for

clients including Westminster City Council and Brighton and Hove

Council, and director of communications for housing charity Shelter from

1992 to 1994.
