The dramatic exit comes as Spinvox continues to fight claims of financial mismanagement and a reliance on call centres. Whatley played a central role overseeing the company's social media strategy. Earlier this month, PRWeek revealed that Spinvox had launched an internal investigation into charges that the company had been 'astroturfing' online.
Whatley's departure follows an early-August denial from Spinvox regarding his potential exit. It also raises fresh questions about the company's social media strategy going forward. SpinVox global PR director Jane Henry exclusively told PRWeek last month that the firm would use direct comms, media relations, blogs and social media to ‘correct and explain the erroneous information'.
Whatley said: 'The past two years have been, in the main, awesome. I've learnt a hell of a lot and have had the good fortune of working with some amazing people on some fantastic projects.
Trust me when I say: I will take much of what I've learnt in my time in Marlow long into my professional life.'
Whatley joined the company in September 2007.
