Information technology giant Cap Gemini has just appointed its

first Scottish agency, Harrison Cowley, to help to fuel its expansion

north of the border.

Harrison Cowley won the account in a three-way pitch. The one-year

contract is to handle Scottish national and trade media relations.

Alan Twigg, managing director of the agency’s Scottish operation, said:

’We will be highlighting what (Cap Gemini’s) success means to Scotland

in terms of employment opportunities and advanced solutions to some of

the country’s leading organisations.’

Cap Gemini is Europe’s largest IT services and consultancy company. It

employs more than 700 people in Scotland and has just hired its first

team of locally-based computer consultants.

’This will take us into new areas,’ said John Kyle, director of Cap

Gemini Scotland. ’We want to be a household name in terms of IT

services.’

Harrison Cowley starts work this month. It already represents Action

2000, the Government task force tackling the Millennium bug.

The agency will report to Michelle Perkins, PR manager for Cap Gemini

who manages nine agencies in all. Banner PR and, in Ireland, Simpson

FTPR handle most of the work but Perkins is considering consolidating

Cap Gemini’s PR business. She is also looking for a third person to join

the London PR team.
