Islington Council’s PR chief Jennifer Powell is leaving, days after

the council’s chief executive appointed Westminster Strategy to review

the future of its press and PR function and provide it with in-house

support.

Westminster Strategy already works for Islington’s education service,

which has spent the last few weeks fire-fighting hostile reports about a

damning review by education regulator Ofsted (PR Week, 14 May). The

agency has now been tasked with communicating a resulting shake-up of

the council.

Its brief involves communications strategy, including determining the

future shape of Islington’s press and PR office, and helping the council

implement its PR on site. WS consultants Anne Wallace and Anne Thomas

will be seconded to Islington’s offices on a part-time basis.

WS deputy managing director Mike Lee is leading the account, reporting

directly to Islington CEO, Leisha Fullick.

Powell joined Islington Council three years ago as communications

manager and was promoted to information and customer services head -

which covers communication and marketing - over a year ago. She leaves

the council at the end of next week to join management consultancy

Towers Perrin as a communications consultant.
