Agencies in battle for Botox account

Pharmaceutical firm Allergan has appointed fresh agency support for its cosmetic portfolio, including its controversial Botox brand.

The global healthcare company held pitches earlier this month. It is understood that med ed agency Darwin Grey picked up the account after a three-way shoot-out, although the agency refused to confirm or deny this.

Hertfordshire-based healthcare shop Ashley Communications had held the account for nine years and did not repitch.

The three agencies were fighting for one of the company’s business units, which is believed to include the company’s cosmetic portfolio. This encompasses the famous Botox brand and the firm’s breast augmentation services.

The company was looking for a new agency to provide a fresh perspective on the account. Allergan media manager Janet Kettle confirmed a pitch had taken place but declined to reveal further details.

Allergan still uses healthcare shop Chandler Chicco Agency to handle PR. The agency rolled out a beauty
campaign for the firm in 2007.

Allergan is headquartered in California and employs 8,000 people worldwide.

The pitch coincides with a spate of PR wins for agencies with cosmetic surgery companies. The Hospital Group, a cosmetic and weight loss surgery group, recently called in Birmingham-based Seal to promote its clinics and services (PRWeek, 5 June).

Meanwhile, the goodsurgeonguide. com has hired 10 Yetis to support its launch, and the Institute of Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery has taken on Full Portion Media to handle its PR (PRWeek, 31 July).
