Magnox Electric, the state owned nuclear power company, has hired

independent Brussels-based lobbyist Cabinet Stewart to conduct an audit

of issues facing the company in Europe.

The win comes via an informal link-up between Cabinet Stewart and

Magnox’s UK agency Fishburn Hedges, which has been developed in the last

six months.

Cabinet Stewart will report directly to Magnox. Both agencies will be

dealing with environment and planning issues, energy policies and

proposals for a European energy tax. Brussels was previously covered

in-house by Magnox, which was established in March last year.

Magnox owns and operates a number of older nuclear power stations

previously run by Nuclear Electric and Scottish Nuclear prior to their

privatisation as British Energy. It is also responsible for dismantling

the advanced gas-cooled reactor at Sellafield and is due to merge with

reprocessing company BNFL by April 1998.
