DIARY: Dating game just doesn’t add up for Addition

There’s nothing like press coverage to get prospective clients queuing up at the door.

There’s nothing like press coverage to get prospective clients queuing

up at the door.

Unfortunately for London-based consultancy Addition PR, it is having to

turn many potential ‘clients’ away from its door.

Unbeknown to Addition, the firm has a doppleganger in the form of

Additions, an innovative dating agency offering extra-marital couplings

for clients who want a little bit of spice in life.

Ever since an article on extra-marital dating mentioned the agency in a

national newspaper five months ago, Addition PR has been flooded with

calls from gentlemen wanting to be ‘fixed up with someone’.

‘It’s been literally jamming the switchboard,’ explains director Hilary

Sutcliffe, a little wearily. ‘We’ve had at least a hundred calls so far.

And now they are telling us the agency has been shown on cable TV as

well.

‘I can’t believe there are so many people out there with such sad

married lives. They keep ringing us up and asking what sort of company

we are. When we say public relations they want to know what sort of

relations we offer.’

Given the huge number of lonely hearts out there, has Addition PR

considered branching out into the lucrative field of personal, rather

than public, relations?

‘No way,’ says Sutcliffe. ‘We are a very straight down the line PR

agency. It’s not really our scene.’
