Diary: Financial Dynamics frozen out of merger deal

With takeover fever gripping continental Europe, UK financial PR agencies are keen to get a piece of the action.

With takeover fever gripping continental Europe, UK financial PR

agencies are keen to get a piece of the action.

One of the biggest and most controversial deals at the moment is the

attempted bid by French bank Banque Nationale de Paris (BNP) for its

rivals.

Societe Generale and Paribas, which are themselves in the throes of

merger talks.

Ordinarily, Financial Dynamics would be ideally placed to get involved

in this banking threesome. Deals involving French companies are one of

the agency’s strengths. But unfortunately, poor old FD has to sit this

one out on the sidelines because it is on a retainer with insurance

giant Axa, which just happens to be the largest shareholder in both

Paribas and BNP.

Speaking from the Paris offices of LVMH, where he is busy working on the

luxury goods giant’s bid for Italian fashion house Gucci, FD director

Hugh Morrison appeared resigned to his fate. ’It’s what one is obliged

to do,’ he said, speaking like a true gentleman.
