PARIS: Financial information provider and publisher of the Wall

Street Journal, Dow Jones, is close to naming a Paris-based agency to

handle its corporate press and PR work in France.

GCI is tipped to win the account as the agency is believed to have been

handling project work for Dow Jones in France. A three-way pitch for the

account took place at the end of 1998 and a deal is expected to be

signed imminently.

The agency would only say that it was ’in talks’ with Dow Jones and that

’no concrete agreement’ had been signed.

The move will be Dow Jones’ final step in the process of choosing

agencies to support its European business.

Herald Communications was selected to run Dow Jones’ press and PR in

Germany at the end of 1998 and began work in January. Luther Pendragon

won the UK account at the same time and has been working on the Dow

Jones account since the beginning of the year.

Dow Jones head of corporate communications Brigitte Trafford oversaw the

agency selection process at the end of last year. All PR was previously

handled by an in-house team of three in London.

’Dow Jones wants to extend further into its key markets in the UK,

France and Germany,’ a spokeswoman said.

Dow Jones’ publications include the Wall Street Journal Europe, Dow

Jones Newswires and internet-based electronic publications.
