The Consumers’ Association has chosen Michelle Childs as its new

policy research head, a post which comes within the communications team

and is responsible for shaping the association’s policies.

She replaces Benet Middleton, who left the association last week to

become policy, public affairs and communications director for the

British Diabetic Association.

Childs will head a team of eight people and report to association

communications director Nick Gammage.

A trained lawyer, Childs is currently a project manager at telecom

regulator OFTEL, reporting to its board and working on telecoms

regulation. Her tasks there include helping the regulator respond to the

ongoing EU review of telecoms legislation.

Childs is following in the footsteps of her future boss, Gammage, who

left OFTEL as communications director for the Consumers’ Association

last year.
