Water UK, the trade association representing the water industry,

has appointed its first public affairs officer and a second media

relations officer as it battles against threatened price cuts from the

water regulator.

The move comes as the organisation focuses its PR away from sponsorship

and advertorials towards stronger press and government relations.

Public affairs officer Miles Celic joined Water UK this week from

lobbying agency Connect public affairs, where he was a consultant for

two-and-a-half years.

Meanwhile, Fiona O’Farrell also joined Water UK as media relations

officer this week. She spent the last year at cosmetics company Avon as

a PR manager.

Both Celic and Farrell will report to Water UK’s communications

director, Adrian Beeby.

Celic will take over some of the responsibilities previously handled by

Water UK’s retained public affairs agency, Rowland, which will continue

to provide strategic advice.

Beeby said: ’The industry is facing an imposed price cut from the water

regulator, which we don’t understand, because customers don’t want price

cuts, they want better service.’ The water regulator is due to complete

its price review in November.
