The Department of Trade and Industry has appointed Matt Tee, head

of PR at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital Trust, as head of news.

Tee will oversee a team of more than 20 people and will be responsible

for media relations, reporting to communications director Stephen

Sklaroff.

He replaces Mike Ricketts, who joined the Cabinet Office in January to

head a team of PR officers dealing with issues surrounding the

millennium bug.

Ricketts has been seconded for a 15-month period to head a ten-strong

team. He has the option of returning to the DTI, although not his

previous role, if he does not move on to a job elsewhere when his

Cabinet Office work ends.

At the hospital trust, Tee oversees a team of four and reports to chief

executive Tim Matthews. He is responsible for media relations, corporate

PR, public affairs and internal communications.

Over the last two years, the trust has been campaigning for changes to

the two hospitals. The Government ordered an independent review of the

capital’s health services in 1997, which concluded early last year. The

trust successfully argued that Guy’s should become a centre for planned

care, with its casualty and maternity units moving to St Thomas’, which

will become an emergency care centre. Earlier this month, Health

Secretary Frank Dobson confirmed funding for a new cancer and rhenal

centre and a pounds 50 million children’s hospital at St Thomas’.
