The Department of Trade and Industry has appointed Matt Tee, head
of PR at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital Trust, as head of news.
Tee will oversee a team of more than 20 people and will be responsible
for media relations, reporting to communications director Stephen
He replaces Mike Ricketts, who joined the Cabinet Office in January to
head a team of PR officers dealing with issues surrounding the
Ricketts has been seconded for a 15-month period to head a ten-strong
team. He has the option of returning to the DTI, although not his
previous role, if he does not move on to a job elsewhere when his
Cabinet Office work ends.
At the hospital trust, Tee oversees a team of four and reports to chief
executive Tim Matthews. He is responsible for media relations, corporate
PR, public affairs and internal communications.
Over the last two years, the trust has been campaigning for changes to
the two hospitals. The Government ordered an independent review of the
capital’s health services in 1997, which concluded early last year. The
trust successfully argued that Guy’s should become a centre for planned
care, with its casualty and maternity units moving to St Thomas’, which
will become an emergency care centre. Earlier this month, Health
Secretary Frank Dobson confirmed funding for a new cancer and rhenal
centre and a pounds 50 million children’s hospital at St Thomas’.
