Former Vodafone corporate affairs director Simon Lewis was due to enter Downing Street this week, although he will not properly begin his new job as the PM's official spokesman until October.

But lobby hacks have already decided on a nickname for him. According to one of their number, Lewis will be known as 'the mobile phone man'. Well, it could be worse, Simon ... Nick Davies is the intrepid Guardian journo behind the phone hacking story that has been causing grief for Tory comms chief Andy Coulson. But is Davies also working for the Commons' culture, media and sport select committee, which is set to investigate the issue? We only ask as an email from the committee dropped into Flack's inbox this week, alerting us to its next evidence session and stating that media enquiries should be directed to a certain 'Nick Davies' ... Band & Brown Communications has decided on a novel idea for a recession-friendly summer party. Rather than hiring a fancy venue in Soho, it is holding a village-style fete in its own car park in Camden, with staff running food stalls. Homemade jam, anyone? ... Flack discovered what it felt like to be an important parcel when Eulogy invited PRWeek for drinks at swanky east London members club Shoreditch House. With it being such a distance from PRWeek Towers, the agency laid on a fleet of motorbikes to courier us across the city in style.
