Travel operator Airtours has named Anita McErlean as its first
director of communications.
Formerly director of UK operations for Airtours, McErlean will take on
responsibility for internal and external communications, including the
six-strong press team.
McErlean’s appointment follows the decision by the Airtours’ board to
place greater emphasis on its public and internal communications. A
senior management restructure last September saw the company move away
from its price-driven strategy, towards a marketing-led position.
’I intend to look at the structure of the team, see what expertise we
need and recruit accordingly,’ McErlean told PR Week. She will also
assess whether further agency support is needed. Airtours currently use
Manchester-based Staniforth PR and Brunswick for financial PR.
McErlean was responsible for crisis and issues management in her
previous role, and has acted as the company’s primary spokesperson.
