Eagle Star has appointed Paul Swinburn to the new post of corporate
affairs director to head up the insurer’s public relations activities
Swinburn, previously corporate communications director for two-and-a-
half years with responsibility for PR and advertising in the UK, will
now take charge of media relations, corporate PR, government relations
and regulatory affairs for Eagle Star’s operations across 30 countries.
Based at headquarters in Cheltenham, he leads an in-house team of 14
staff including two PR managers for Eagle Star’s operating divisions and
a public affairs manager for corporate issues.
His appointment follows an earlier shake-up in Eagle Star’s marketing
functions. In January, Steve Wigzell, director of planning and
development at parent company BAT Financial Services, was appointed
marketing director to relaunch the brand.
‘As Eagle Star begins to strengthen its non-UK life assurance business
it is important to get a coherent message communicated across the
world,’ said Swinburn.
He added that the company’s use of external PR consultancies would be
assessed but denied that this would amount to a full scale review.
‘I shall be having a look at the work they are doing so we can give them
better direction from the centre,’ he said.
In the UK Eagle Star retains Fishburn Hedges for corporate and product
PR and Westminster Advisers for public affairs work.
