NEWS: Cellnet shortlists four agencies in major PR review

Cellnet, the UK’s second biggest mobile phone company, is reviewing its consumer and business-to-business PR contract.

Cellnet, the UK’s second biggest mobile phone company, is reviewing its

consumer and business-to-business PR contract.

The company has shortlisted four agencies to pitch for the account -

worth up to pounds 100,000 in fees - over the next three weeks.

Incumbent firm Spreckley Pittham, which has worked for Cellnet for five

years, will re-pitch for the contract.

Commenting on the agency’s work for Cellnet, Spreckley Pittham director

Mike Spreckley said it had handled ‘national media blockbusters and day-

to-day support’.

The company, which has 2.3 million customers, announced price cuts

earlier this month to compete with main rival Vodafone, and Orange.

According to January’s figures Cellnet has a 42.4 per cent of market

share with Vodaphone just ahead with 42.9.

‘It is a dynamic, fast-moving market,’ said Cellnet public relations

manager Sue Jones. ‘It seemed like a reasonable decision to review.’

Jones said lobbying and ‘technical PR’ will continue to be handled in-

house by Cellnet’s team of three. A decision is expected within a month.
