PARIS: Paris mayor Jean Tiberi, who last month designated

journalist Michel Bassi to become the new director of the city’s

Direction Generale de l’Information et de la Communication (PR Week, 23

June), has hired a new personal communications adviser, Jean-Pierre

Labro.

Labro will serve as press secretary for Tiberi’s re-election bid for new

municipal elections, scheduled for next March.

With the decision by the Gaullist Rassemblement pour la Republique (RPR)

political party to designate another candidate, Philippe Seguin, to run

for mayor under the RPR’s colours, Tiberi has decided to step up his

campaign in the French press, where he has come under regular

attack.

Earlier this year (PR Week, 26 May), Tiberi lost the support of longtime

PR adviser Jean Peyrat, who chose to resign from the leadership of the

DGIC rather than continue to support Tiberi, who succeeded Jacques

Chiraq as mayor.
