AMSTERDAM: One of Holland’s best-known PR names is to take a 50 per

cent share in a new consultancy.

Dij Istha, executive vice- president of corporate communications at

airline KLM, will join Huijskens and Company in September. The agency

will be renamed Huijskens and Istha. His successor at KLM is not known;

the airline is in merger talks with British Airways. Istha headed a

department of 30 and was responsible for government relations, PR and

internal communications.

Huijskens and Company works with a variety of companies listed on the

Amsterdam stock exchange and does some government work. The pounds

500,000 turnover agency specialises in financial, corporate and crisis

communications.

’Istha is one of the best-known names in Dutch corporate

communications,’ said managing director Charles Huijskens. ’He has a lot

of business and political contacts.’

Huijskens set up the agency nine years ago and employs ten staff. Istha

said: ’We have thought about setting up a bureau together several times

but something always came up. I am 50 years old and if I don’t do it now

I never will.’

Istha led the Labour Party campaign in 1993, which saw Wim Kok elected

as Prime Minister. Before that he was on the board at management

consultant Berenschot, after 13 years in the diplomatic service, where

he was a spokesman for the ministry of foreign affairs.
