Bmi brings in Sam Day from Gold Medal Travel to head commercial comms

Airline bmi has appointed its first head of commercial communications as it looks to attract the business market.

Sam Day has joined the airline in the newly created position and will be responsible for developing partnerships for the airline and increasing sales.

Most recently Day was PR manager for the Gold Medal Travel Group. She has also previously worked for MyTravel, handling PR for brands Airtours, Going Places, Cresta Holidays and Tradewinds.

She will try to raise awareness that bmi now runs mid-haul routes, as well as targeting business travellers with the news that the airline has launched a new lounge at London’s Heathrow Airport.

She will work closely with retained agency Four Communications, and other agencies in the US, Russia, the Middle East and Ireland.

The airline’s corporate communications team, who handle crisis communications and media for the chairman, is still based in the East Midlands.
