Mike Granatt attacks Commons 'inwardness' after Michael Martin resignation

Michael Martin's former spokesman has told PRWeek.com that the resignation of the Commons speaker was 'inevitable'.

Luther Pendragon partner Mike Granatt represented Martin until resigning last February, after being misled over the speaker’s allowances.

Granatt said: ‘I think it was inevitable given the turmoil there was going to be casualties. It reflects the inwardness of the House of Commons on not seeing the inevitable comedown that was coming to them. It was quite clear that there was going to be this sort of revelation.'
 
Granatt added that the issue over which he resigned last February ‘did show how febrile these issues are around expenses and Parliament and using money’.

Granatt resigned after inadvertently misleading journalists over expenses claimed by Martin's wife.
