BREAKING NEWS: Defra hires Andrew Whyte as director of comms

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has appointed a new director of comms from Arts Council England (ACE).

Andrew Whyte joins Defra in June, from his role as executive director, advocacy and communications at ACE.
 
Whyte has formerly worked as deputy director of corporate affairs at News International and head of corporate and public relations at the BBC.
 
Whyte replaces Jill Rutter who has been acting director of comms since October 2008.
 
The appointment follows the announcement that Mark Popescu would be joining as Defra’s head of news.
