Van Communications will be handling the PR for the German retailer's consumer goods and corporate business.

Deichmann, which has 31 stores in the UK, last week announced it would be opening a further ten outlets in the country in 2009. The company hopes to open as many as 400 UK stores in the long-run.

Van's brief includes promoting the opening of Deichmann's flagship, 7,300 square foot store at the Westfield shopping centre. The agency will also position the shoes as fashionable but affordable.

Deischmann previously used pop groups the Sugababes and the Pussycat Dolls to publicise its shoes and will announce a new celebrity brand ambassador in the near future.
