Brands still seek support

A host of companies are still seeking fresh consumer PR assistance despite the imminent recession.

Canned fish supplier John West plans to appoint an agency in the next few weeks. The company is looking for an agency to handle consumer PR across its portfolio of products. Pitches have taken place and a decision is expected soon.

Restaurant chain Little Chef is also understood to be searching for a consumer agency.

A company spokeswoman would not comment on rum-ours of a pitch.

The chain brought in Birmingham-based IAS Smarts last February to launch a new look, and CEO Ian Pegler hired business and political shop RJH Management as its personal publicist in August.

Meanwhile, the commercial arm of the National Gallery is in talks with agencies to handle its consumer and business-to-business support. The gallery has not previously used an agency. It is seeking a consultancy to oversee areas such as retail, e-commerce, image gallery, publishing and licensing.
