Ofgem chief joins Downing Street

The head of government affairs at Ofgem is moving to Downing Street to take up a role as a special adviser to the Prime Minister.

Stuart Hudson left the gas and electricity regulator yesterday. It is understood that he will take a policy-focused role at Number Ten.
 
A spokesman for Ofgem confirmed Hudson’s departure but declined to provide details of the new role.
 
Ofgem has not lined up a replacement for Hudson and is expected to begin a recruitment process in the year.
 
The Prime Minister has shaken up Downing Street in recent months – disposing of strategy chief Stephen Carter and handing a crucial role to Cabinet Office minister Liam Byrne.
