NHS County Durham has appointed a new head of communications and public relations.

Mary Bewley joins from being head of communications and marketing for Impact, which oversees Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees primary care trusts, all in Teesside.

Bewley’s new role has a remit to build brand recognition as the local leader of the NHS, to manage relationships with healthcare providers, and to lead social marketing approaches in health prevention.

She has worked in senior communications for the NHS in Teesside for eight years, and previously worked for the probation service.
