Opinion: From our Readers - Hedge funds need to open up to the media

The hedge fund industry (News, 3 October) has vacillated between pouring scorn on, and complaining about, the Financial Services Authority's temporary ban on short trading financial stocks.

A common refrain from these 'masters of the universe' has been that 'politicians and the media just do not understand shorting'.

Whose fault is that? The hedge fund industry is notorious for its closed ranks.

'Hedgies' might have a point when they say they are being blamed unfairly for the current carnage in the City. But they have a lot of work to do in opening up communication.
