Hackney Homes Staff Excellence Awards were relaunched in 2008 to more than 800 office-based and manual workers. Staff members were encouraged to nominate their colleagues and teams.

OBJECTIVES

- To encourage more staff to nominate their colleagues for awards

- To increase staff morale and loyalty

- To link individual and team performance to Hackney Homes, key objectives.

STRATEGY AND PLAN

Where is the Love? was launched on 14 February to coincide with Valentine's Day. On the day, all staff received a hand-delivered Valentine's card as well as a heart-shaped sweet to tuck into. Along with the Valentine's card was a form for them to nominate their colleagues for an award.

Heart-shaped display stands were erected in all offices. The staff newsletter carried wraparound on the February issue and the staff intranet ran reminders on the home page. The winners were captured on a documentary shown at the Hackney Homes Staff conference in April.

MEASUREMENT AND EVALUATION

The launch gained positive feedback from office-based staff and manual workers.

RESULTS

The campaign attracted more than 60 nominations, with a high proportion from non-office-based staff who are traditionally hard to reach.
