Granatt left claiming he inadvertently misled journalists over expenses claimed by Martin's wife.

Granatt had said £4,280 spent by Martin's wife since 2004 was for the trips with an official because she had been buying food for official functions.

Granatt had to change the story to say that Martin's wife had been accompanied by her housekeeper, not a Commons official, when making the taxi trips. He said he had been misled by ‘people who knew the facts'.
