Cornish Pasty to protect its name

The Cornish Pasty Association is planning a national campaign to prevent its name being used on pasties made outside the region.

The association, a group of more than 40 of the county's pasty manufacturers, is applying for European protected status. If successful it will mean that only pasties made in Cornwall can legally be called Cornish pasties.

The association is using Geometry PR. Regional press are being given the story to encourage local pasty bakers to back the campaign. A national consumer campaign is planned for later this year.
