Virgin Atlantic has been ranked as the most recommended brand in an index of online word of mouth - largely due to its environmental behaviour.

Other brands that were rated strongly in the Kaizo Advocacy Index were Symbian, 3 and Kellogg's.

Meanwhile, Del Monte plummeted some 78 points to -53 on the back of negative labour relations news, and Microsoft’s online reputation was tarnished by anti-trust action in Europe.

Other 'Word of Mouth' losers include Ryanair and TMobile.

The Kaizo Advocacy Index measures the impact of online Word of Mouth, or the brand 'recommendability', of 20 major brands across four sectors, by examining independent links on Google search engines.
