Stephen Webb will be taking the top comms role at NHS London in early April, as Lord Darzi's much-criticised plans to reshape London’s hospitals are analysed.

Webb said: 'Coming from Transport for London (TfL), working with controversial issues won't exactly be new.'

He will work as a member of the board, making sure that a comms element is built into the entire decision-making process.

He will report to NHS London chief executive Ruth Carnell.

Webb has been at TfL since 2001, before which he worked in the press offices of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and Department for Transport.
