Gaby Hinsliff has returned to The Observer as political editor following maternity leave. Nicholas Watt, who was covering Hinsliff's role, will be returning to The Guardian as chief political correspondent.

Hospitality trade title The Publican has hired Matt Eley as news editor. Eley moves from Archant Regional newspaper Hampstead and Highgate Express, where he was also news editor.

The Times home editor John Wellman has been promoted to deputy head of news across both print and online platforms. The Times has hired the FT's New York bureau chief, David Wighton, as business and city editor.

Sam Lyon, the Evening Standard's head of forward planning, is now night news editor. Ruth Bloomfield will replace Lyon as head of forward planning. Chief political correspondent Jason Beattie is moving to the Daily Mirror this month, as deputy political editor.

The Wall Street Journal has promoted markets and hedge fund correspondent Alistair MacDonald to UK politics, economics and European financial regulation correspondent.

David Hayes is now deputy editor of the Daily Mail's Lifestyle section. Hayes replaces Tracey Blake, who has moved to sister title London Lite as features editor.

The Sunday Times has hired Kate Walsh as business reporter. Walsh moves from City AM where she was media reporter.

Glamour magazine's senior fashion assistant Des Lewis has now started at InStyle as fashion and shopping editor.

Liz Bury is to join Building Design as deputy editor, moving from The Bookseller, where she is features and special projects editor.

Haymarket title Media Week has promoted Harriet Dennys to features editor, replacing Julia Martin, who has left to join Redwood Publishing as editor of the Royal Mail's Courier magazine.

Birmingham Post features editor Sarah Probert is now on maternity leave. Alison Jones is covering as acting features editor and will continue as women's editor and food editor.

More magazine's assistant lifestyle editor Susan Riley is now acting editor at teen magazine Sugar, covering for Annabel Brog, who will be going on maternity leave at the end of March.

Laura Binney is the new retail editor at Easy Living. Binney replaces Charlotte Brown, who is moving to sister Conde Nast title World of Interiors as promotions director.

BROADCAST
LGBT station Gaydar Radio has hired DJ Kris Di Angelis and the editor of QX Magazine Cliff Joannou to present a new Sunday show.

DIGITAL
The Times deputy sports editor Jeremy Griffin is now assistant head of online news, taking responsibility for all online news coverage. The Times online editor Brigid Callaghan has been promoted to editor of Times Mobile, responsible for developing the title's mobile news platform.

Haymarket has appointed digital editors to its four weekly print titles in the brand media division. Dexter Webb, previously at The Wall Street Journal and WSJ.com, has joined PRWeek. Richard Sutcliffe, who has worked at Virgin Media and Highbury House, has joined Media Week. Colin Marrs moves from Haymarket's Planning magazine to take the role at Campaign. Bill Britt, community editor on Brand Republic and online editor on Marketing, is now the digital editor on Marketing.
