DIARY: Industry wowed by BA's masterclass

A good week, then, for British Airways, which received a veritable monsoon of plaudits after a plane-load of passengers crashed down safely at Heathrow airport.

And people were not just congratulating the pilot either.

'So clever the way they have deflected everything on to how brilliant the crew were,' said one impressed PRO. 'They had the helpline up within 30 minutes apparently,' he added.

PRWeek columnist Ian Monk was suitably impressed too, and Diary was inundated with letters appreciative of the previously pilloried BA press office.

And the happy news does not end there, for flight BA038 was also an advert for the airline's first class service.

Take a close look at the images of the stricken plane, chutes deployed. The exit ramp for the front section of the plane seems to be roughly 50 per cent bigger than the other two.

It seems the first class experience extends beyond mere champagne and a comfortable sleep on the way back from Beijing.
