EMI veteran steps down to go solo

EMI's most senior publicist is leaving after 23 years, taking some of the troubled label's high-profile PR business with him.

Kylie Minogue and Lily Allen will continue to be represented by Parlophone director of press Murray Chalmers when he leaves the label in May.

Chalmers is currently recruiting for two permanent members of staff to help him run his fledgling
entertainment PR agency, Infinite.

EMI has faced intense criticism and an exodus of stars since private equity titan Guy Hands' £3.2bn takeover last summer.

Chalmers said it was too early to know whether more EMI publicists would resign, or whether Guy Hands' projected job cuts would include press officers.
