Charities to aid military service

Three major charities are combining efforts to promote a new financial advice service aimed at serving and ex-serving military personnel.

The Royal British Legion (RBL), Citizens Advice (CA) and The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund are collaborating to launch the Benefits and Money Advice Service.

A recent survey of RBL beneficiaries and staff found that a fully holistic benefits advice, claims and debt reductions service was required.

The three-year partnership is being rolled out this month across 18 Citizens Advice Bureaux in England and Wales, with a view to expanding this to 20 in 2008.

The service is being promoted in-house by the three organisations, with regional launch events in early 2008.

Citizens Advice press and public affairs manager Faye Jordan said: ‘The important thing is capturing the journalists’ imagination, getting them to look at the people behind the story.’
