Sri Lanka woos tourists

The Sri Lankan Government has called in London-based PR expertise for an inward investment and tourism programme.

The brief, which is thought to be worth £100,000 over an initial four-month period, will see Good Relations position the Indian Ocean island as a ‘business and tourism destination’.

Sri Lanka is looking for investment from Canada, Europe and India, but the Bell Pottinger Group agency will have to contest a number of ongoing issues that cast the ex-British colony in an unfavourable light.

Separatist group the Tamil Tigers has an ongoing and bloody feud festering with the Sri Lankan Government, while around 31,000 people died and more than £750m-worth of property was destroyed in the tsunami disaster on Boxing Day 2004.
