TUI Travel PROs face uncertain future after merger

The fate of the comms team at Europe's biggest travel firm hung in the balance this week as the new TUI Travel unveiled its senior management line-up.

TUI Travel, the result of a merger between holiday giants Thomson and First Choice, began trading on the London Stock Exchange on Monday.

Although First Choice’s corporate comms director Lesley Allan retains her role at the new plc office, newly appointed marketing director Tim Williamson was still considering the structure of the PR function that will report to him.

Stephen Lane, who took over as TUI Thomson’s head of comms earlier this year (PRWeek, 23 March), told PRWeek that his role had yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, it emerges that long-serving Thomson PR managers Kimberly Kay and Harry Helps have left, reducing a once nine-strong UK press office to just three people. Agency BGB Communications is providing support.

First Choice’s head of PR, Emma Waddell, who has been reporting to Williamson since before the merger, looks well-positioned for the top PR job.
