Pfizer rules out new PR search

Pfizer has denied that it is on the hunt for new PR support in the UK for its flagship Viagra brand.

The statement comes after it was revealed that Pfizer was in talks with marcoms agencies to sell the erectile dysfunction brand over the counter.

Healthcare PR agencies had hoped that an agency would be brought on board for the change.
But Andrew Widger, comms manager for Pfizer UK, said: ‘We are not tendering for [PR] work for the brand. We are happy with the current support we have.’

The manufacturer’s PR agencies in the UK are Beattie Communications and Chandler Chicco Agency. Earlier this year Pfizer handed out a pan-European comms account for Viagra believed to be worth £500,000 to Edelman (PRWeek, 16 May).

A shortlist of three marcoms agencies is thought to be in line to pitch for a pan-European consumer marketing campaign for Viagra.
