Mencap holds back on emails

Learning disability charity MenĀ­cap has spoken out in favour of the hard copy press release.

The charity has been ­buoyed by the ­response to its releases about this year’s Snap! exhibition.

The annual photographic exhibition offers insight into living with learning disabilities and marks Learning Disability Week.

This year, the charity posted its press releases and found journalists paid more attention than before.

Press officer Georgie Webb said email attachments often blocked recipients’ email systems. She said: ‘It’s nice to open an envelope and it’s far more personal.’

Mencap is using a 50/50 combination of hard copy and email releases for the promotion of the exhibition.
