Although home to a cluster of PR and other media-related businesses, until recently Farnham has been a business lunch black spot, with only one or two options standing out from the pasta and pizza brigade. Enter Loch Fyne - yes, part of a chain - but still ticking all the right boxes (relaxed, airy, private, ethically sound) for entertaining clients or journalists.
Loch Fyne restaurants are like a breath of fresh air with their blond wood interiors and sparkling-fresh seafood (much of it sourced from the loch itself). The Farnham version is an extra-chic take on the theme, housed in a large Georgian building in the centre of town. Ask for the conservatory for extra sunshine - currently the most popular tables apparently.
Pale, melt-in-the-mouth organic smoked salmon - try the Loch Fyne Ashet - home-made crab cakes or fish stew... there's a fish dish for every client. Poached smoked haddock with mash, spinach, pea and mustard sauce is tops for post-meeting comfort food and there are a couple of meaty and vegetarian options too, plus an £11 set lunch. We liked the crisp white house wine from the comprehensive list.
A private room means we'll also be investigating this as a venue for meetings or briefings and the sunny patio will beckon come the summer.
