VSO requires PR aid in Third World

VSO is calling on PR professionals to help some of the world's most disadvantaged communities fight poverty.

The international development charity has seen an increase in demand for communications and marketing volunteers from partners in Africa and Asia.

It is seeking experienced PR consultants to train local staff and help develop communications strategies.

Vicky Starnes, marketing advisor at VSO, said: ‘We have seen a growth in areas not traditionally linked to VSO such as marketing, communications and PR.'

She added: ‘Organisations and co-operatives across the developing world are looking to promote their work and raise funds. PR is a new skill area in these countries, so there's a shortage of trained local people.'
