Gazprom hits back at critics

Gazprom is countering claims that its comms programme is insufficient and a perception that it is conĀtrolled by the Russian state.

The energy group's head of international media relations spoke out after a Channel 4 Dispatches programme this week lambasted Russian business practices.

Moscow-based Denis  Ignatiev told PRWeek a sea-change in attitudes was needed. ‘People still think there are bears in Red Square drinking vodka,' he said.

Ignatiev said the firm would continue arranging press trips for journalists to see the process of retrieving gas, so they could better understand the company.

‘Major decisions are made by the directors, sometimes to the disagreement of the state,' he said. ‘We need to change old stereotypes.'
