Letter - Forget English grads and hire PR students

It is clear to see that juniors do not have the passion or knowledge required for PR ('Survey finds most junior staff planning to quit PR', 16 Feb).

High-flying consultancies feel that by headhunting English graduates, from 'red brick universities', they will end up with the cream of the crop. What a mistake.

Junior PR professionals often give up, which I believe is due to the fact that they have not been educated in PR, so are unprepared for it.

A solution is undergraduates studying PR. They have a full knowledge of the industry and in the long run will be more dedicated to the job.

Who would you employ - English or PR graduates?

Kirsty O'Connor, PR student, Leeds Metropolitan University. Send your letters (200 words maximum) to prweekletters@haynet.com or air your views with our online comment function: www.prweek.com/uk.
