MMD to publish report on the 'Russian blogosphere'

The Moscow office of pan-European consultancy MMD has put together a definitive study on the burgeoning blog scene in Russia.

The report will provide case studies and advice on blogging in the country. It will be published on 21 March at the State Higher School of Economics in Moscow, under the title ‘Not Quite Samizdat: a look at the Russian blogosphere'.

MMD CIS regional director Stephen Lock described the Russian blog arena as ‘extremely feisty and judgemental'. He added: ‘Almost every blogger in Russia uses the interlinked communities of LiveJournal.com, and it is amazing to see gossip fly about, even faster than in the US.

‘Because so many Russian journalists are bloggers, the blogosphere is both the launching pad and the after-party for most big news stories in Russia.'

Lock added that a knowledge of Russian blogs was important for Western companies doing business in Russia. ‘If bloggers think you are short-changing Russians, in terms of quality or approach, they say so,' he said.

PRWeek readers can access a free English copy of the report before its launch by emailing arseniy.rastorguev@mmd.ru.
