Drinkaware Trust readies launch

The Drinkaware Trust has taken on its first press officer as it prepares for its official launch this month.

Esther Freeman joined the new charity last week with a remit to prepare its press office for action.

A newly appointed board of trustees is to outline the charity's aims for the year ahead.

The trust has been formed as an offshoot of drinks industry lobbyist The Portman Group.

Part of the Government's Alcohol Harm Reduction Strategy, it will provide independent campaigning and educational advice.

Freeman worked on Community Service Volunteers' Make a Difference Day campaign for two years until the role was wound up.

She now reports to Kate Winstanley, former head of policy at The Portman Group (PRWeek, 19 January).
