Alexander takes Breakthrough job

Breakthrough Breast Cancer has enlisted Maggie Alexander, CEO of the Brain and Spine Foundation, to be its new head of policy and campaigns.

She replaces Antonia Bunnin, who left Breakthrough last year to become CEO of age concern charity Guild Care (PRWeek, 29 September 2006).

Alexander joined Breakthrough Breast Cancer this month with a brief to lead the charity's policy team and fight for the best possible treatment for breast cancer sufferers.

The charity has been in the thick of the battle for patients' right to drugs such as Herceptin, and is determined to keep up the pressure on decision makers.

Its annual fashion show last October featured models who had recovered from the disease (PRWeek, 15 September 2006).
