Kuwaiti family in Sovereign drive

One of the most powerful families in Kuwait is to use Sovereign Strategy to manage its public affairs.

The Bukhamseen Group has stakes in five banks and insurance companies, including the Egyptian Gulf Bank in Cairo.

It also owns the Crowne Plaza hotel in Kuwait and is building two new shopping malls in the country.

Sovereign Strategy has been reappointed by the firm to provide global strategic consultancy and political counsel.

Associate director Jolyon Kimble, who will lead the project, said he would be advising the group on ‘the whole range of issues that face top-flight businesses today'. The agency will also lobby retailers to set up store in the shopping malls.

Sovereign hit the headlines last year when a Sunday Times report alleged that the agency - which represents US nuclear company Fluor -paid £2,000 to refurbish environment secretary David Miliband's constituency HQ.
